Downtown Portland Rocks!

I've been a bit behind on my blog updates but that's because I've been busy enjoying my new life in downtown Portland :)

Upon my return from Musselman I started a new job and it's been a relaxed whirlwind ever since.

I LOVE working downtown!!!!!! I have taken the train everyday which allows me time to read books, magazines or talk to my husband who I often ride the train with. I get to the train station by either walking the 1.2 miles from my house or biking to a station further down the line. A few times we've even biked all the way to the zoo which is completely uphill but makes for a great workout.

My new office is on the 8th floor and for the first time in the HISTORY of my working life I sit looking out a huge picture window. Not just at the side of a building but at a beautiful view of the Broadway bridge and river. WOO HOO!!!!

There are no cubicles here so everyone is right next to each other which has cut down on my personal calls and emails but so what, since I only work 8hrs a day (OMG, what a novel idea) I have more than enough time to take care of that after or before work :) I actually get to sleep til a reasonable time and I come to work at a reasonable time. I also don't have to spend time worrying about what I'm wearing. Why is that? Everyone in my office wears t-shirts, sandals, shorts pretty much everyday. It's awesome. I'm not super comfortable wearing shorts in general so I've taken to wearing my new Keen sandals, capris and a different color top or race t-shirt. Did I mention it's awesome?

There are like 4 Starbucks within walking distance and I've been able to have lunch with my husband, meet friends for dinner after work and even do errands at lunch because everything is so close.

My co-workers are all very nice and I'm starting to get the hang of my new job. It's a tremendous change going from a huge corporation to a smaller upstart but I'm loving the work/life balance encouraged here, the relaxed office environment (comfy couches instead of conference rooms and things like free coffee and BBQs).

As for my racing future it's still just that. In the future. Right now I'm loving riding my bike uphill, running for fun with friends on the river and trying to get my eating back under control. I figure there's plenty of time to decide what's next in the making of a Speed Leopard.

Congratulations! That sounds like the perfect job change!

I made a similar switch almost 2 years ago - went from corporate hell to a small 'upstart' (just ME!) - and I've never been happier. The commute from my bedroom to my office is murder, I trip over 2, sometimes 3 cats before I find my way to the computer : )

Love the sandals, need to find some like that myself.
